Outside, the room number is on the ground, in the mezzanine floor, sealed in the grit that is like embroidery: 3 is the number of the Deluxe Old England Room. You arrive at the room at the end of a short entrance onto which there are the bathrooms and a small hallway area with a sofa and a Chinese wardrobe. A welcoming burgundy carpet accompanies this path up to the entrance door to the bedroom, made of wood painted in a soft and elegant ash-blue colour. Beautiful and welcoming, the room is corner, and thus enjoys a double view: from the French window the view extends over the rose and box garden and the panorama of the rice fields.
A small, shallow balcony recovers the ancient bricks and the wooden shutters are the original ones, divided into two parts in height, in the "fashion of the past". The large bed with a dark wooden headboard decorated with golden brass garlands is sober and reassuring, as well as the antique dresser with a honey-colored marble top. This style thinks it is severe, but is soon softened by joyful paintings, large red poppies smile on the walls...
The bathroom is then an explosion of joy: an ancient iron and ceramic sink winks at the flowery tile walls, delicate shoots that intertwine endlessly. In the bedroom the window has remained open, a light breath of wind is like sweet music, it moves the branches of the pine tree, and I, holding out my arms, almost caress the branches. We dedicate this room To those who wish to rediscover the memory of the "good things of the past", sober and elegant, combined with a taste of childhood, like the scent of wood and lavender in grandmother's house.
It would have been appreciated by… Angelo Morbelli, painter born in 1854 not far from here, in Casale Monferrato, for that play of shadows and lights created by the sun through the pine branches, for the brightness of the rice fields flooded in spring, for the sweetness of the landscape, which would have certainly found a wonderful space on one of his canvases...
